Congresswoman Speier Presents 'When I Grow Up…' at Genentech
The event is in observation of National Women's History Month.

From the Office of Congresswoman Jackie Speier: Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) will hold her annual “When I Grow Up…” event in observation of National Women’s History Month for 300 elementary and middle school girls and their parents at Genentech, Building 35, in South San Francisco on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Speier will be joined by four women who have broken down barriers and made history in their fields:
- Audrey Cooper, San Francisco Chronicle Editor in Chief, the first female editor of the paper in its 151 year history and the youngest woman ever named as the top editor of a major U.S. paper
- Kimberly Chambers, a top marathon open water swimmer who is one of six people in the world to have completed the Ocean Seven Challenge and who has set a Guinness Book of Records by swimming 30 miles from the Farallon Islands to the Golden Gate in a regular swimsuit
- Susan M. Begelman, M.D., F.A.CC at Genentech who specializes in Neuroscience, Rare Disease, Infectious Disease, and Established Products
- Ruth Waters, Founder/Executive Director of the Peninsula Museum of Art, who has been a sculptor for six decades and supported the arts on the Peninsula for four decades
“Mentoring the next generation and encouraging young people to follow their dreams seems more important than ever,” Speier said. “I am thrilled that four exceptionally talented women will join me in firing up the imagination of girls who will be our future leaders.”
