Early Morning Fire Disrupts Operations at SFO Airport

A large fire at San Francisco International Airport disrupted operations at the United Airlines Maintenance Facility Wednesday morning.

BAY AREA, CA -- A large fire at San Francisco International Airport has disrupted operations at the United Airlines Maintenance Facility, according to reports. However, the airport says that flights have not been disrupted by the incident.

Just after 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a large plume of dark smoke could be seen hovering over the area. The image was captured by ABC 7 TV news producer Eric Shakelford:

The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the fire at the maintenance facility. According to airport officials, passenger terminal not affected, flights operating normally.

The fire was contained to the United Airlines maintenance facility, which is located the north end of the airport, according to airport spokesman Doug Yakel.

Airport officials told CBS Bay Area affiliate KPIX 5 that the fire had originated from a rooftop HVAC unit at the facility.

As of 8:20 a.m., the fire had been contained. No injuries were immediately reported and evacuated workers were allowed to return to their jobs.
