Lowe's Closing 4 CA Stores, 20 Nationwide

Right after it shuttered all of its Orchard Supply Hardware stores, Lowe's announced that it is closing underperforming stores.

CALIFORNIA — Just three months after Lowe's announced the closure of all Orchard Supply Hardware stores, the beloved California chain that began in San Jose in 1931, Lowe's announced on Monday that it will close 20 underperforming stores nationwide including four here in California. The closings are expected to happen by the end of the company's 2018 fiscal year (Feb. 1, 2019).

The Lowe's stores closing in California are:

  • Lowe’s of Aliso Viejo, CA (Store #1900) 26501 Aliso Creek Rd., Aliso Viejo, CA 92656
  • Lowe’s of Irvine, CA (Store #769)13300 Jamboree Rd., Irvine, CA 92602
  • Lowe’s of South San Francisco, CA (Store #2452) 720 Dubuque Ave., South San Francisco, CA 94080
  • Lowe’s of Central San Jose, CA (Store #2842) 750 Newhall Dr., San Jose, CA 95110

To facilitate an orderly wind-down, the company said it intends to conduct store closing sales for most of the impacted locations with the exception of select stores in the U.S., which will close immediately. There was no word Monday on which "select" stores would close immediately.

Along with the U.S. closings, Lowe's said it will shutter 31 Canadian stores and other locations.

"While decisions that impact our associates are never easy, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business," said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe's president and CEO. "We believe our people are the foundation of our business and essential to our future growth, and we are making every effort to transition impacted associates to nearby Lowe's stores."
