SSF Rolls Out Welcome Mat To Mercedes Dealership: Report

South San Francisco's Planning Commission unanimously approved Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco's plan.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Peninsula city with deep blue-collar roots is rolling out the welcome mat to a company more commonly associated with the well-heeled.

South San Francisco officials have given the go-head to a Mercedes-Benz dealership to fill a vacant lot on the site of a shuttered Orchard Supply Hardware store on Gellert Blvd., The San Mateo Daily Journal reports.

The luxury car dealership will operate in a city is known for its “South San Francisco The Industrial City” sign emblazoned on the San Bruno Mountains that’s overlooked the city since the 1920s.

South San Francisco’s Planning Commission unanimously approved the plan on Thursday according to the report.

Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco will convert a parcel from 2211 to 2245 Gellert Blvd. into a 110,000-square-foot dealership according to the report that will include a 30,000-square-foot service center.

The dealership will displace Gellert Market’s 11 businesses and restaurants, which the city will assist in relocating according to the report.
