Coronavirus: How Full Are Studio City-Area Hospitals?

There is now public data showing how close your local hospital is to being at or over capacity.

STUDIO CITY, CA — Hospitals in the Studio City area are almost at capacity due to the ongoing surge in coronavirus cases in Illinois and around the country. State health officials warn that once all hospital beds are occupied, patients may be turned away.

For weeks, Gov. Gavin Newsom and California health officials have warned residents of the risk of local hospitals becoming overwhelmed as case counts continue to rise, even as vaccine distribution is now in sight.

Residents can now look up exactly how full their local hospital is. Based on research and data compiled by the University of Minnesota, National Public Radio created a "look-up" tool showing which hospitals are “dangerously full.

“The ratio of COVID-19 hospitalizations to total beds gives a picture of how much strain a hospital is under,” NPR reported. “Though there's not a clear threshold, it's concerning when that rate rises above 10%," hospital capacity experts told NPR.
