Fatal 405 Freeway Crash Triggers SigAlert In Van Nuys
An early morning rollover on the 405 killed one person and injured another, forcing lane closures lasting into the morning rush hour.
VAN NUYS, CA — One person was killed Friday morning and another person was injured in a single vehicle rollover crash on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys.
The crash was reported about 3:20 a.m. and involved a cream colored SUV tumbling approximately 50 feet down an embankment off the freeway before it landed on its side below the Roscoe Boulevard onramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The person who was killed was "believed to be the driver of the vehicle, who was ejected," according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local trauma center in unknown condition, Prange said.
The ages, genders and names of the victims were not immediately released.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
A SigAlert was issued until at least 7 a.m. for the No. 4 lane of the San Diego Freeway and the Roscoe Boulevard onramp to the freeway, the CHP said.
