Fire Breaks Out At Universal Studios Hollywood

Footage showed flames near the park's "Despicable Me Minion Mayhem" attraction late Tuesday night.

STUDIO CITY, CA — A fire broke out at Universal Studios Hollywood Tuesday night, causing minimal damage.

Los Angeles County Fire Department said the fire sprang up around 11:40 p.m. at a storage container, at or near the Woody Woodpecker parking lot according to KTLA5. Social media footage showed the flames, with a user saying the fire took place near the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction.

A Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson told the L.A. Times rides and attractions were not affected and that it would be "business as usual" at the theme park on Wednesday.

Tuesday night's fire took place on the 13th anniversary of a major backlot fire at Universal Studios Hollywood that injured nine firefighters and a sheriff's deputy. That time, the blaze destroyed the park's "King Kong" ride, along with master recordings of songs by Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and more.
