Glendale Offers Local Artists Six Months Of Rent-Free Store Space

Businesses offering specialty food and retail are especially encouraged to apply.

GLENDALE, CA — Calling all artists and artisans! The city of Glendale needs your help turning North Artsakh Avenue into one of L.A.'s great entertainment corners. Monday, Glendale launched a program offering selected businesses up to six months of rent-free retail space, aiming to spur growth of its Arts & Entertainment District.

Businesses offering specialty food and retail, such as cheese shops, wine, olive oil, soap, jewelry and clothing, are especially encouraged to apply. Artists offering education-based dance, music and acting services, performance or creation spaces are also sought.

"Artsakh Creative is looking for unique brands, businesses, creatives and entrepreneurs that have a genuine ability and desire to share their creative talents through artisanal and arts-related uses and products, as well as community events and programming," the organization wrote. "Selected business will be invited to showcase their products and/or cultural offerings in a retail space that will give artists and local, traditionally home or online-based businesses the opportunity to sell their products and test the local market for a limited time."

Applications will be judged by the product's uniqueness and quality, marketing plan, previous experience, and how closely the experience aligns with the goals for the Arts & Entertainment district.

Participating pop-ups submit a $2,000 refundable deposit. A lower deposit can be negotiated for pop-ups who will be present for one month or less.
