'Brady Bunch' House Mystery Buyer Revealed!

STUDIO CITY, CA — Home and Garden network HGTV revealed itself Tuesday to be the mystery buyer that outbid NSync's Lance Bass for the famed “Brady Bunch” house. Though tight-lipped about the specifics, network execs say they have groovy plans for the iconic house that served as the backdrop for the adventures of Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Cindy, Bobby, Mike, Carol, and cousin Oliver.

David Zaslav, chief executive officer of HGTV's parent company Discovery, announced the deal on a company earnings call Tuesday.

"One example of our new project for HGTV will speak to those 'Brady Bunch' fans on the call. ... You may have heard that the house from the iconic series was recently on the market in California," Zaslav said, according to CNN. "I'm excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and we'll restore the home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can. More detail to come over the next few months, but we'll bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history."

Billed as the second most photographed house in America behind the White House, the home hit the market for the first time in 50 years last month and immediately set off a bidding war.

Not everyone is happy to hear about HGTV’s plans. Bass, in classic “Brady Bunch” fashion, is licking his wounds. He posted his tale of woe to Instagram with a photo of himself standing in front of the house titled, “Here’s a story...of a very shady Brady.”

“Marcia Marcia Marcia!” he wrote. “Im feeling heartbroken today... We were prepared to go even higher but totally discouraged by the sellers agent, they will outperform any bid with unlimited resources. How is this fair or legal?? How can I compete with a billion dollar corporate entity? I truly believe I was used to drive up the price of the home knowing very well that this corporation intended on making their offer and it’s not a good feeling. I feel used but most importantly I’m hurt and saddened by this highly questionable outcome.”

Listed at $1,885,000, the two-bedroom home is situated in Studio City's Colfax Meadows. According to records, Violet and George McCallister bought the house $61,000 in 1973 when the "Brady Bunch" was still airing. While the interior never served as a set for the show, the home is like a time capsule, with decor unchanged since the early 70s. It has a wet bar, a tall stone fireplace and a master bedroom adorned with hot-pink Toile de Jouy wallpaper and matching bedspread.

There is no word yet on how much HGTV snagged it for.
