New Chef From CSUN Elevates Menu At San Fernando Gastropub

STUDIO CITY, CA — Studio City's upscale gastropub Gray Tavern boasts a new head chef, intent on cultivating a fresh, farm-to-table menu at the laid-back eatery on Ventura Boulevard.
The recently hired Josh Kennedy is a graduate of California State University, Northridge, and the Culinary Institute of America in Napa. Having grown up cooking since he was a teen, the Los Angeles native has an extensive and eclectic resume, that includes working alongside Top Chef contestant Sang Yoon, L.A.-area chef and Tamale Museum founder John Sedlar and Michelin-starred chef Perry Hoffman.
Such mentors led Kennedy to a goal of respecting food, utilizing plants in seasonal cooking and minimizing waste within the restaurant, management said.

With a modern, industrial-designed setting that features interior and exterior dining, Gray Tavern has a menu offering tapa selections, including arancini (Fontina-stuffed risotto balls), Studio City Hush Puppies (crunchy, mashed-potato balls with chipotle aioli and parmesan cheese) and Prince Edward Island mussels in Thai green curry.
Entrees include: cioppino with blue crab and mussels; Aji Amarillo ceviche; a burger with bacon-onion jam; filet mignon with cognac flambé pepper sauce; and house-made potato gnocchi.

Wines, craft beer and specialty cocktails, along with such desserts as fried bread pudding and lemon bars, are also on the menu.
