The man told police he was going to guard a friend's business from looters.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police in Downtown Los Angeles Tuesday arrested a man armed with an assault rifle and wearing military gear similar to a National Guard uniform.

The man, Gregory Wong of Gardena, 31, told police he was heading downtown to provide security to a friend's establishment, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison said.

An alert National Guard member spotted the unfamiliar man in combat gear and alerted police Tuesday morning. Wong was taken into custody by police at about 1:30 a.m., Madison said.
