The First Christian Church of North Hollywood (located in Studio City at 4390 Colfax Ave.) has a unique series of movies that spark discussion in religion all summer.
The Faith in Film: Stories that Heal series offers a free screening of a movie and then a discussion in the Social Hall of the church, and runs through Aug. 26.
Every Monday night at 7 p.m. is a new film, and church leaders discuss the significance to spirituality.
This week, "Real Women Have Curves" is a 2003 PG-13 film about Ana, a Mexican-American teen living in East Los Angeles while attending Beverly Hills High School and working in her sister's dress factory. According to the description: "Ana has dreams of attenting Columbia but before achieving her goal, she mus try to balance her mother's traditional view of women, with her own contemporary ideas while dealing with self-image issues."
Contact the church website at www.fccnh.org for more information and a full schedule of events. The films are open to all.
