UNIVERSAL CITY, CA — Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen, a full-service restaurant that serves steak and seafood with a specialization in gourmet chocolate desserts, will move in 2021 into the two-story space currently occupied by Hard Rock Cafe at Universal CityWalk in Universal City, officials announced this week.

Universal Studios Hollywood management did not provide specifics on the Hard Rock shuttering, saying the information would be released when it becomes available. However, a blog, "Inside Universal," claimed from "rumors" that Hard Rock's closure may be as soon as January.

The soon-to-be local Toothsome, which currently operates an establishment at Universal CityWalk Orlando, will be adjacent to Universal Cinema, joining the CityWalk line-up of such dining spots as Antojitos Cocina Mexicana, VIVO Italian Kitchen, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and Voodoo Doughnuts.

The restaurant will serve brunch, lunch and dinner, along with such confectionary treats as artisanal milkshakes and sundaes.

The Hard Rock Cafe chain was launched in London in the 1970s with a focus on rock-and-roll memorabilia, burgers and Americana cuisine. The closure of the Universal City locale, which opened in 1996, will leave California with just three Hard Rock Cafe locations - in Hollywood, San Francisco and Wheatland near Sacramento, according to the company web site.
