City Seeks Input on Decoto Green Streets Project

The City of Union City is asking for community input for a pilot program to “green” an area in the Decoto neighborhood.

The Decoto Green Streets Project, which will begin next year, will include various landscaping and infrastructure improvements along C Street between 5th and 9th Streets.

Funded by the Urban Greening for Sustainable Communities grant, the project calls for water drainage improvements and  “a dramatic increase” in the number of plants and trees in the area, according to a city press release. Other benefits will include improved air quality, reduced water pollution and enhanced pedestrian access and safety.

A community meeting is scheduled for May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary School, located at 678 B Street.

Attendees will be able to hear more and discuss the project. The meeting will be held near the project site so attendees will be able to step outside to better visualize where the improvements will take place, according to the press release.

Input from the meeting will be factored into the project design, which is currently being developed.

Another meeting will be held when the project design is more than halfway completed, staff said.
