Pedestrian In Crosswalk Hit In Union City

UNION CITY, CA — A pedestrian in a crosswalk was hit by a pickup on Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City Friday morning. It happened at a beacon-flashing crosswalk between Mann Avenue and Decoto Road just after 6 a.m.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital. The victim's name, a man in his 40s, has not been released. Initially, his injuries were described as life-threatening, but his condition has been stabilized.

The driver of the pick-up remained at the crash scene and cooperated with investigators.

Busy Alvarado-Niles Road was closed in the westbound lanes for several hours as police conducted their investigation. If you witnessed this collision, please contact UCPD Traffic Officer Vasicek at 510-675-5222.
