East Bay Youth Group Seeking Volunteers to Collect Donations for Typhoon Haiyan Relief

Anakbayan East Bay, a member of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, is planning to send volunteers and place donation jars at shopping centers throughout the region to collect relief funds.

Filipino youth and student group Anakbayan East Bay is seeking volunteers to assist with donation drives and other local events to aide victims of Typhoon Haiyan. 

Haiyan may be the most powerful storm ever to hit land, with authorities estimating a death toll in the Philippine city of Tlacoban as high as 10,000.

Anakbayan East Bay is urging the local community to help support relief efforts.

According to Nicole Manzana, a Union City resident and member of Anakbayan East Bay, the group is planning to place donation jars and volunteers at shopping centers throughout the region to collect relief funds.

Those interested in getting involved and helping to collect donations are asked to email typhoonreliefabeb@gmail.com.

The East Bay group is also encouraging community members to make direct monetary donations through the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns. The donations will benefit those in need on the ground in the Philippines, Manzana said.
