Former San Francisco Chronicle Printing Plant to be Turned into Industrial Development

The former San Francisco Chronicle printing plant in Union City will soon be demolished to make way for a 300,000-square-foot industrial facility, according to San Francisco Business Times. 

Westcore Properties purchased the 16.5-acre property, located at 1550 Pacific St., earlier this month. The developer plans to demolish the more than 160,000-square-foot printing plant to build a manufacturing and distribution building.

Westcore is developing the facility on spec. A representative for Westcore told the Times that Union City’s market has “tightened considerably,” making the spec development viable. 

According to the Times, there’s currently a trend among developers replacing old plants with modern buildings.

The Union City plant served as the Chronicle’s in-house printing plant before it shut down in 2009. The Chronicle switched to an outside printer, causing more than 200 employees to be laid off, according to the Chronicle.
