Happy Father’s Day From Jacob Gentry

"Even though I don't understand what 'work' is, I know that it's not your favorite thing to do and yet you do it because you love us"

In celebration of Father's Day on Sunday June 17, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their father and let us deliver it. This is Jacob Gentry's letter to his dad:

Hi Dada!

I love you so much. I want you to know that even though Mama spends a lot of time with me, you are still half of my world. I need Mama, but I need my Dada, too. I can’t talk with you about football and video games yet, so you may sometimes struggle with what to do with me when we are together. It’s okay Dada. But just in case, I made a list of 20 things that I love about you. There are more than this, but I can only count to 20.

1. When you and I play with Gymbo Saturday mornings
2. When the Tickle Monster attacks me!
3. When you buy Mama that yummy lemonade drink
4. When you read to me those baby books with the bald baby
5. When we fly to the bedroom
6. I have so much fun when we go outside and go down the slide together
7. The way you look for and catch snail families for me
8. When you run late for work Tuesdays and Fridays to sleep longer with me (and get Mama mad)
9. The way you grab me to sleep in your arms
10. When you bring me chips to eat
11. The way you sit outside with me and watch me spray my water bottle
12. The water bottle you got me
13. When you grab my hand and take me outside to go see the ducks
14. When you sing “Rock-A-Bye-Baby” to me 10 times in a row
15. When you let me play with Babysister
16. The way you yell for me to come when you find a spider in the kitchen
17. I know Mama hates it, but I like when you let me jump on the couch
18. The way you taught me how to count the hummingbirds at Grandma’s house
19. When you help me record videos on my phone
20. When you call me Super Jacob

And I especially like it when you carry me high in the air and make me feel strong like you! I really miss you when you’re working — Mama says it’s to buy me more milk and Spider-Man toys, but I really wish you could be home with us. Even though I don’t understand what “work” is, I know that it’s not your favorite thing to do, and yet you do it because you love us. Thank you, Dada. I really mean it. I am so glad you are my Dad!

Happy Father’s Day
