Police Log: Carjacking Suspect Arrested; Man Crashes Stolen Car

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Union City between March 22 and March 26 as released by the Union City Police Department. Reports have been edited for Patch style.Â
FRIDAY, MARCH 22
Man crashes stolen car

An officer spotted a speeding vehicle in the area of Whipple Road near Ithaca Street at around 11:38 p.m. The officer tried to stop the car, which lost control and crashed into three parked cars. The driver hopped out of the car and tried to run away. The suspect was eventually arrested and the car was determined to be stolen on March 19.

Dude doing donuts arrested for possession of cocaine
At about 2:15 a.m., an officer spotted a car doing donuts in the intersection of Osprey Drive and Quarry Lakes. The driver parked the car in Kinglet Court and fled into a nearby home. Officers contacted the suspect at the home and arrested him on suspicion of possessing cocaine. The car was towed.
MONDAY, MARCH 25
Transient steals copper wire from electrical box
Copper wire was stolen from an electric box on Zwissig Way. A transient was seen in the area immediately after the theft. He was described as a white male in his mid-40s, who was unshaven with gray hair and a medium build. He was wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans. The stolen wire is valued at more than $500.
Man threatens to harm family
Officers were sent to a home on Trefry Court to investigate a report of a man threatening to harm his family. The suspect also had a felony warrant from Antioch for burglary and disobeying a court order. The suspect managed to flee over fences and through several backyards. Police searched 15 yards but the suspect was not found. Police later learned that the suspect had associates in the area and may have hid out in a friends home.
TUESDAY, MARCH 26
Three arrested following probation search
Members of the community policing unit and the Major Crimes Task Force conducted a narcotics-related probation search at a home on the 35000 block of Lilac Loop. As officers arrived, they were faced with resistance from the probationer, along with his mother. Three people were eventually arrested.
Carjacking suspect arrested
Union City officers worked with San Jose police in arresting a Norteno gang member wanted for carjacking. The suspect was found parked behind the Station District apartment complex on Cheeves Way near 11th Street. The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with carjacking.
