Tri-City Artist Honored by Commission

She oversees the painting of art on graffiti-covered Utility Boxes.

FREMONT, CA — The Alameda County Arts Commission has recognized eight individuals for their achievements and contributions impacting the arts community and residents of Alameda County,inlcuding Fremont resident Susan Longini.

Longini is a professional visual artist and program manager for the City of Fremont’s Utility Box Art Program boxART!, a private/public project to repaint 170 graffiti-covered utility boxes throughout town. She also served on the City of Fremont’s Art Review Board as a member for 11 years and as president for 4 years.

Longini is a nationally recognized artist in kiln formed (pate de verre) glass, having spent nearly 40 years working in this medium. Her work is widely collected and adorns many private and public spaces nationally.

The other honorees are: Bruce Beasley of Oakland, Kathleen Breedveld of Livermore, MK Chavez of Oakland, J.K. Fowler of Oakland, Don Lewis of Pleasanton, Ayodele Nzinga of Oakland, and Sergio Suarez of Hayward who has spent the last 10 years educating college students at Ohlone College in Fremont.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will commend these eight individuals during the Board’s public meeting on Tuesday, September 27, 10:45am at the Alameda County Administration Building, Supervisor’s Chambers, 1221 Oak Street, 5th Floor, Oakland. This event is also presented in conjunction with the County’s celebration of California Arts Day and National Arts and Humanities Month of October.
