Union City Police Reported Less Crimes to FBI in 2012

Union City police reported 235 violent crimes in 2012. That’s 76 less than the 311 reported in 2011.
The number of property crimes, however, increased slightly from 1,787 in 2011 to 1,808 last year. In 2012, Union City had a violent crime rate of about 3.3 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 25.4 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Union City has one sworn officer for every 1,000 residents, which is close to the East Bay average of 1.2.
