Union City Woman Injured in Oakland Shooting

One man was killed and two women were injured. A four-year-old child was in the car during the shooting.

A man shot and killed in West Oakland on Saturday evening was identified by police today as 38-year-old Abebe Bent of Richmond.

Bent was shot along with two women who were sitting in a parked car with a 4-year-old child in the 900 block of 21st Street at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The women, residents of Union City and San Leandro, then drove to a hospital and were treated for gunshot wounds not considered life-threatening.

The child was not injured, police said.

Bent was found at the shooting scene, where emergency responders pronounced him dead.

Police are continuing to investigate what led to Bent’s death and have not identified any suspects as of this afternoon. Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to contact Oakland police homicide investigators at (510) 238-3821.
