Union City's 'Protect Our Elders' Event To Offer Free Safety Kits

UNION CITY, CA — Portable safety kits will be distributed at a free community event set next weekend for older members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in Union City.

Protect our Elders, sponsored by the Racial Justice Committee of the New Haven Teachers Association, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Birdhaus Beer Garden at 3821 Smith St. in Union City.

The teachers union committee was established to promote racial justice throughout the community with a focus on students in kindergarten through twelfth grade, their families and union members.

During the event, committee members will distribute free safety kits that include small flashlights, whistles, bungee coil key rings, personal alarms and pepper spray.
