Chargers-London Rumor Prompts Choice Words From Dean Spanos

INGLEWOOD, CA — Los Angeles Chargers owner Dean Spanos Tuesday angrily shot down a report that the team might consider leaving the Southland for London.

In an expletive-laced response to a report published by The Athletic, Spanos told a group of reporters the team has no plans to leave the Los Angeles area.

"It's total (expletive) (expletive). We're not going anywhere," Spanos said. "We're playing in Los Angeles. This is our home. This is where we are planning to be for a long (expletive) time. Period."

The story in The Athletic suggested that the NFL has been considering the possibility of locating a team in London, and that the Chargers -- while committed to the Los Angeles area -- would be willing to at least consider the idea.

Spanos' comments, however, appeared to shoot down the notion.

The team appeared to back up Spanos' remarks on its official Twitter page, where it posted a short clip from the 2013 film "The Wolf of Wall Street." In the clip, Leonardo DiCaprio's character defiantly tells his employees he's "not (expletive) leaving. The show goes on. This is my home. They're going to need a (expletive) wrecking ball to take me out of here. They're gonna need to send in the National Guard and a (expletive) SWAT team, 'cause I ain't going nowhere."

The Chargers relocated from San Diego to the Southland prior to the 2017 season and have been playing at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. The team will move next season to SoFi Stadium, which it will share with the Los Angeles Rams, in Inglewood.
