VENICE BEACH, CA — Venice Beach's Pride Lifeguard Tower has a fresh coat of paint and an updated look.
The lifeguard tower is located at 998 Ocean Front Walk, Venice. It's a symbol of acceptance, celebrating diversity and the LGBTQ+ community in Venice.
Richard Martinez and the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors refurbished the lifeguard tower March 30 — just in time for Pride Month in June.

In 2017, the tower was painted rainbow by artist Patrick Marston in partnership with Venice Pride. Marston and his husband Michael Brunt have lived in Venice for more than 20 years.
The tower has also become a symbol of resilience.

Long Beach's Pride Lifeguard Tower was gutted by a fire in March. Mayor Robert Garcia called it an "act of hate."
"LGBTQ members of the Marine Safety Division painted the tower during Pride month last year. The tower served as a symbol of our strong support for the diversity within our ranks & community," Long Beach Fire Department said via Twitter.
The tower will be replaced and repainted by lifeguards, the LBFD reported.
