VENICE, CA — A 33-year-old man suspected of shooting a homeless man at the Venice Beach Boardwalk then later setting a car on fire with two women was arrested this week on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Area.
The shooting happened April 28 about 4:27 a.m. in the 600 block of Ocean Front Walk, near Sunset Avenue, when the suspect walked up to a homeless man and aimed a handgun at him, shooting him three times, police said. As the victim crawled away, the suspect shot at the victim for a fourth time.
After shooting the victim, the suspect and two women drove off in a 2020 Jeep Compass and fled southbound on Speedway Avenue, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital for his injuries. LAPD detectives believe the shooting was gang-related.
