Venice Gondos Win Belmont Zone of Choice Basketball Tournament

The Venice High School basketball team beats Verdugo Hills, 71-65, to win the Belmont Zone of Choice basketball tournament.

Senior point guard Chad Tanioka scored 35 points to lead the Venice Gondoliers to a 71-65 win Saturday over Verdugo Hills in the Belmont Zone of Choice tournament championship game.

Tanioka also had five assists and three rebounds for Venice in the tournament final played at the Roybal Learning Center near downtown. Senior center Jeff Levy also had eight rebounds for the Gondoliers.

Venice improved to 4-2 with the win and has yet to start league play.
