Grants of up to $5,000 will be given to Venice-based community organizations and non-profit groups.

The nonprofit Abbot Kinney Festival Association is accepting applications for community grants for Venice-based community organizations and non-profit groups.

The association has donated more than $250,000 to the Venice community through its grants program for project ranging from planting gardens to building robots to supporting families in need. A maximum of $5,000 is awarded to each grant recipient.

Past recipients include: Inside Out Community Arts, Boys and Girls Club of Venice, Westminster Elementary Endowment, Venice Arts, 826LA, Coeur d'Alene Elementary School, Venice High School Robotics Club, Venice Arts Council, A Window Between Worlds, Electric Lodge, Beyond Baroque, Venice Historical Society, Venice Community Garden, Venice Oceanarium, Venice Surf & Skateboard Association, and others.

The festival's free and a lot of fun!  But the driving force behind it all is giving back to our community - to Venice.  We're doin' good in the 'hood", said Donna Humphrey,  chair of the Abbot Kinney Festival Association, in a statement.

The deadline for applications is July 15.

Fund for the grants come from festival sponsorships, exhibitor booths, commemorative merchandise and advertising.

For more information visit www.abbotkinney.org or send email to communitygrants@abbotkinney.org or apply online. The grants are available to small and mid-sized groups with annual operating budgets of less than $1 million and located and serving the Venice community.
