'Wilfred' with Elijah Wood Films on Venice Beach

A new patio restaurant was spotted on the Venice Beach boardwalk Monday, but the Sundown Cafe turned out to be a fake spot built for a television shoot.

The FX dark comedy show "Wilfred," which stars "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood, took over a corner of the boardwalk near Windward Plaza to shoot a scene for the show. On the show, Wood plays Ryan, a troubled young man who sees a dog named Wilfred as a man in a dog suit, while everyone else sees a dog.

Wood, a Los Angeles resident, later this year will reprise his role as Frodo from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy in Peter Jackson's two-part prequel, The Hobbit.
