WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Riviera Family Apartments in Walnut Creek are now home to 147 people. While that's a source of hope for those struggling with rent, it also highlights the tremendous, unmet need for affordable housing in the area: there were more than 4,000 applications for the 58 units.

“Affordable housing projects like Riviera Family Apartments play an essential role in addressing the Bay Area’s regional housing crisis,” said Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva. “We are proud to have contributed funding for the Riviera Family Apartments, which will provide 58 units of safe and stable housing for people to now call home.”

Walnut Creek now has 519 affordable apartment units. The city has committed over $26 million to the development of new affordable housing projects in the last 15 years and is preparing to fund a new project in the upcoming year. St. Paul’s Commons should be finished later this year and a Habitat for Humanity project at 1250 Las Juntas is in the works.
