2 Ex-Monterey County Deputies Arrested On Sexual Assault Charges
Marlon Alveranga and Brent Horger were both arrested this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting inmates in Monterey County.
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — Two former Monterey County sheriff's deputies have been arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of inmates in the county jail, according to the sheriff's office.
Marlon Alveranga was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of rape, five counts of sexual activity with a confined adult and one count of sexual battery, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
Alveranga reportedly raped at least one inmate, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators have reportedly spoken to multiple possible victims in California and Mexico.

The sheriff's office said it had been investigating Alveranga for over a year, but that prosecutors declined to file charges against the former deputy in an earlier case that involved Alveranga's arrest last October.
The investigation into Alveranga led to the arrest of Brent Horger, another former sheriff's deputy, also on suspicion of sexual battery of an inmate of the Monterey County Jail and dissuading a witness from reporting a criminal offense. Horger was arrested Wednesday in Mendocino County.
