Driver Killed In Solo-Vehicle Crash: Castroville

CASTROVILLE, CA — A man was killed in a solo-vehicle crash near Castroville late Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was first reported at 8:59 p.m. on northbound state Highway 1 just south of state Highway 156 in unincorporated Monterey County, CHP Officer Scott Alameda said.

A witness first reported a drunk or reckless driver on the highway moments before the crash. The vehicle traveled down a dirt embankment and the driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Alameda said.

The driver wasn't identified. Nobody else was in the vehicle.
