Fresno Co. Man Pleads Guilty To Molesting Girl He Met On Snapchat

Prosecutors said Robert Gomez, 26, drove to Monterey to meet the 12-year-old girl.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A 27-year-old Fresno County man has pleaded guilty to molesting a 12-year-old Monterey girl after meeting her on Snapchat in 2018, according to the Monterey County District Attorney's office. When Robert Gomez, then 26, first began speaking with the girl that summer, he told her he was 15 years old. The two sent each other "lewd" photos through the application, prosecutors said, and Gomez later drove from Kingsburg to Monterey to meet her.

The two were involved in oral copulation, kissing, groping and digital penetration during the dates, prosecutors said, and Gomez asked the girl to have sex with him, but she declined.
Police began investigating the case after the girl reported the interactions to a counselor in October 2018. Gomez later admitted to molesting the girl, as well as additional victims in other counties, and said he would travel to the locations after meeting them on social media, according to prosecutors.

Gomez faces at least 10 years in prison for lewd acts, oral copulation and digital penetration with a minor under 14, prosecutors said. He will be sentenced by Judge Rafael Vazquez on June 4 and required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
