High Surf Warning In Effect Through Friday Night
People are advised to remain away from the shoreline and stay off of rocks, jetties, and beaches.
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — The National Weather Service is reporting a High Surf Warning is in effect for coastal parts of the Bay Area until 5 p.m. on Friday. The warning is in effect for San Francisco, the coastal North Bay including Point Reyes National Seashore, southern Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast.
There could be breaking waves of 25 to 35 feet, and waves could exceed 45 feet at some locations, according to the National Weather Service. Large breaking waves along the coast will lead to increased wave run-up on beaches with waves topping over large rocks and jetties.
The National Weather Service is warning surf zones will be very dangerous due to strong currents and powerful breaking waves. A High Surf Warning indicates dangerous, battering waves are
expected to pound the shoreline and present potentially damaging and life-threatening conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
