Hwy 1 Improvement Projects Moving Ahead

Learn more about the Santa Cruz Co. Corridor Investment Program

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is pleased to announce a big milestone for the Highway 1 Corridor Investment Program. The final Tier I/II Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Highway 1, prepared in cooperation with Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration, has been completed and approved. This will allow the RTC to move ahead with its next highway construction project and planning for future projects.

The next construction project will be the Hwy 1 41st/Soquel Auxiliary Lanes & Chanticleer Bike/Ped Crossing (see enclosed map). The design phase is underway, with construction to begin in 2020. The project extends approximately 1.4 miles along Highway 1 between 41st Avenue in Capitola and Soquel Drive in Live Oak. The project proposes to add northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes between the two interchanges and to construct a new bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue. The estimated construction cost for this project is $24M.
