MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A Seaside man has been sentenced to three years in prison for a 2017 assault with a golf club, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Friday. Sean Deshand Hand, 27, was sentenced for assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury.

Hand was at a party at a Seaside residence on May 7, 2017. Around 2 a.m., the victim and his roommates were asking people to leave. Hand became upset when he was asked to leave the party and returned with a golf club, prosecutors said.

He confronted the victim and struck him several times with the golf club. The victim was transported to the hospital and was treated for swelling and lacerations. In addition to the prison term, Hand was also ordered to pay $8,170.70 to compensate the victim for his hospital bills.
