Monterey County Selected For National Health Survey

The survey is conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that runs a comprehensive survey on health and nutritional status has selected Monterey County this year to help provide data on public health problems from a national perspective.

According to the CDC, Monterey County is one of 15 counties that will participate in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey beginning Jan. 9. The survey is conducted by the National Center for Health
Statistics.

Residents of the county will be selected at random and invited to participate in a health interview conducted in the respondent's home, followed by a health examination that takes place in one of three mobile exam
centers, CDC officials said. Residents chosen are encouraged to take part in the survey because of the potential to help develop and evolve national health programs and policies.

The survey has been utilized by health officials, legislators and physicians for the past 55 years in order to influence regulation and programming for issues like obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to the CDC.

Representatives stressed that while no direct health care is provided in the mobile examination centers, reports of findings would be given to each participant with an explanation and complete confidentiality.
