Motorcyclist Dies After Crash Near Watsonville

The victim's motorcycle rammed into a wooden utility pole south of Watsonville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A Royal Oaks man was pronounced dead at Natividad Medical Center on Monday night after his motorcycle rammed into a wooden utility pole south of Watsonville, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 56-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, succumbed to his injuries from the solo-vehicle crash, which took place on Lewis Road east of Vega Road in unincorporated Monterey County near the border with Santa Cruz County.

CHP officers responded at 6:23 p.m. to a report of a crash with injuries and found that the man had been traveling east on Lewis Road when he crashed and was ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the driveway of 604 Lewis Road. The man was attended to by medics on scene and then transported in an ambulance to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators have not said whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the solo crash.
