Pebble Beach Olympian Wins Big Sur Marathon

Runners from Oakland and Pebble Beach won the top prizes in the Big Sur International Marathon Sunday in Monterey County.

MONTEREY COUNTY - Runners from Oakland and Pebble Beach won the top prizes in the Big Sur International Marathon Sunday in Monterey County.

Oakland resident Magdalena Boulet, 42, won the women's race with a time of 3 hours, 1 minute and 27 seconds.

Pebble Beach resident Adam Roach, 32, won the men's race with a time of 2:35:36.

Boulet is an Olympic marathon runner and Roach has won the Big Sur International Marathon three other times.

Strong winds challenged the runners this year. Winds of up to 25 mph greeted racers, making this year's event one of the most challenging in the race's 31 years.

"It's always really windy from five to nine (miles), but at Hurricane Point the wind came swirling off the hill," Roach said in a statement.

"I felt like I was going to fly into the ocean it was so strong."
