Probation Officer Pleads Guilty To Hit-And-Run, DUI After Crash
Sonia Cano of Salinas fatally struck a male pedestrian who had been jaywalking, prosecutors said.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — The Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that a county probation officer pleaded guilty to hit-and-run resulting in death, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol. On Dec. 10, 36-year-old Sonia Cano of Salinas and several friends visited multiple restaurants in Salinas, prosecutors said.
Around 7 p.m. that evening, Cano and her friends left a restaurant on North Main Street. Cano got into her vehicle and drove down North Main Street, where she struck a male pedestrian who had been jaywalking,
prosecutors said.
Cano fled the scene without providing assistance to the pedestrian, who died as a result of the collision, according to the district attorney's office. Around 10 p.m., Cano called Salinas police to turn herself in.

When officers went to her home to arrest her, they observed objective signs of alcohol intoxication, prosecutors said. Judge Andrew Liu will sentence Cano on March 7.
