Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk Free Concert Friday: Papa Doo Run Run

This is the last concert of the year - get up to Santa Cruz.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Perennial Santa Cruz favorite Papa Doo Run Run will finish out the 2016 season of Free Friday Night Bands on the Beach at the stage in front of the Boardwalk Friday, Sept. 2. There will be two shows, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

The band has capped the season for several years running. Their surfer music in the style of the Beach Boys is perfectly set at the beach.

Papa Doo Run Run formed in Cupertino in 1965. They served as the “celebrity house band” at Disneyland for 15 years, 1975-1990.

Their 1975 Top 40 hit “Be True To Your School” reached No. 1 in California.

The band's 1985 CD “California Project” hit the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at No. 17 and earned the band their second Gold Record and a Grammy Nomination.

Some tips to remember:

  • access to the prime seating area begins at 4 p.m.
  • limit blanket size to 3x5 feet per person, about the size of a beach towel
  • only low-back chairs are allowed. High-back chairs will be required to move to the back of the beach area
  • moking is not permitted on the beach or Boardwalk
  • alcohol and glass are prohibited on the beach
  • recording of concerts is not allowed
  • keep walkways and stairs clear
  • dancing permitted in front of the stage only
