Visitors May Flock To The Coast As Excessive Heat Watch Looms

Temperatures could reach a scorching 108 degrees this weekend in parts of inland California as a heat wave sweeps through the region.

BAY AREA, CA — Coastal Bay Area cities could see an influx of visitors as much of inland California heads into an excessive heat watch from noon Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday, with record-high temperatures possible.

Temps are expected to reach 95 to 108 degrees in some places, according to the National Weather Service. The hottest temperatures will likely hit over the weekend.

Fortunately, the weather is expected to be much milder along the coast. The shoreline near Santa Cruz County and San Francisco could reach the mid-80s or lower-90s over the weekend, and other coastal areas should remain in the 70s to 80 degrees.

In San Francisco, the downtown and Bayside areas could reach the lower-80s, while the Pacific coastal side should peak in the upper-60s to lower-70s.

Officials warn that anyone heading inland should be wary of heat exhaustion or heat stroke after spending prolonged time outdoors. People are especially vulnerable if they must spend a lot of time outside, don't have air conditioning, are elderly, are a young child or have chronic ailments, NWS wrote.

Call 911 and immediately move to the shade if you are experiencing a heat-related illness.

Drink lots of water, stay out of the sun and stay in air conditioning, NWS said. Keep an eye on family and neighbors.
