Watsonville Día De Los Muertos Celebration Goes Virtual
The in-person event featuring ofrendas has been canceled due to safety concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
WATSONVILLE, CA — Watsonville's annual Mi Casa es Tu Casa Día de los Muertos celebration will take place online this year.
Pajaro Valley Arts, which organizes the event each year, said it can't ensure the gallery will be open to the public and people can safely install ofrendas, or altars honoring dead loved ones through photos or cherished items. The virtual exhibit will take place Oct. 28 to Dec. 13.
Members of the public have submitted photos of ofrendas and Día de los Muertos celebrations, which will be printed and put on display in the gallery, PVA said. PVA will then create a virtual tour of the gallery.
