Watsonville Municipal Airport Runways Close For Repairs

The Federal Aviation Administration awarded a $1.2 million grant to improve the airport last August.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Two runways at Watsonville Municipal Airport will be closed for construction from Thursday through May 15, and travelers are asked to make alternative plans.

The construction effort will repair linear fissures and cracks in the tarmac, as well as upgrade lighting for arriving and departing flights. The primary 4,501-foot runway and the crosswind 3,998-foot runway intersect, so both paths will be closed for the repairs.

Airport officials said the last time the runways were fully repaved was in 1986, and a 2013 review showed significant signs of aging. The Federal Aviation Administration awarded a $1.2 million grant to improve the airport last August.
