Watsonville Teen Killed in Crash With Street Sweeper Identified
The 16-year-old died Monday morning. A passenger in his car was also injured.

A 16-year-old boy killed in a collision with a street sweeper truck Monday morning in Watsonville was identified as Jaime Colimote, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner’s office.
Officers responded to a report of a collision on Harkins Slough Road between Ohlone Parkway and Ford Street shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday, police said. Police and California Highway Patrol officers arrived to the scene, where they found a green Volkswagen Jetta heading west on Harkins Slough Road collided with a city street sweeper truck making a left turn out of Ramsey Park, CHP Officer Trista Sharp said.
Colimote was driving the Volkswagen and emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene, she said. A female juvenile riding in the sedan was transported to Natividad Medical Center for minor injuries and was released hours later, according to Sharp.

The truck driver was not wounded in the collision, she said. The Volkswagen sustained damage to its front end and impact to the top. The truck had minor damage to its rear, Sharp said.
The collision happened within the Watsonville police’s jurisdiction but the CHP is investigating the incident because it involved a city-owned vehicle, police Lt. Saul Gonzalez said. Police received reports of a speeding car in the area before the collision, Gonzalez said.
