WATSONVILLE, CA — California Giant's lobby transformed into Santa's workshop last weekend, but the berry company isn't done spreading holiday cheer. Employees will soon purchase, wrap and deliver gifts and grocery store gift cards to nonprofits, and co-host a telethon-style fundraiser with local TV station KSBW.

Kids at the weekend event received candy canes, made arts and crafts and took photos with Santa. Proceeds benefited needy families, according to a California Giant press release.

The company has raised more than $11,000 to date. That money has gone toward toys for the Salvation Army, groceries for Loaves and Fishes, and adopting 10 local families with 30 kids, 18 foster care kids and 178 kids in nearby counties through Partnership for Children, according to the press release.

"Supporting our community during the holidays brings us closer together while bringing joy to those in need," said Chief Operating Officer Joe Barsi in the press release.

Proceeds from the Dec. 6 telethon will benefit the Salvation Army. Anyone interested in making donations may do so in person at California Giant Berry Farms Cooling, 355 Industrial Road, or at ksbw.com. Common donations include toys, food, clothing, blankets or cash.
