You Decide: How Should This Watsonville Mosaic Look?
Voters have until March 1 to decide which piece of art should adorn a mosaic on the Watsonville Civic Plaza garage, The Pajaronian reported.
WATSONVILLE, CA — Members of the public who wish to have a say in the next phase of the 12,000-square-foot mosaic that will adorn the parking garage at Second and Rodriguez Streets have until March 1 to cast their vote, The Pajaronian reported.
Local artist Kathleen Crocetti is spearheading the "Watsonville Brillante" project, which showcases the work of locally raised artist Juan Fuentes, according to The Pajaronian. "The Strawberry Picker" was the first piece selected for the project, according to the project's website.
Fuente, a Chicano artist who graduated from Watsonville High and now lives in San Francisco, said in his bio that he grew up picking produce with his parents and 11 siblings in Monterey County farmworker camps. His art has featured farmworker scenes, indigenous peoples, and cultural icons such as Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King, Jr.
