Weho's Brad Torgan Takes Head of Nation’s Original Chapter of Gay Republicans

The Los Angeles Chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans—the nation’s preeminent gay GOP group—have elected West Hollywood commissioner and land-use attorney Brad Torgan as their new President.

Torgan is joined on the new Board by Vice President John Musella, Treasurer Bill Reeher, Secretary Paul Fredrix and Board Members Jeffrey Davis, Jeff Guillory, Scott Schmidt and Bob Valentine.

At its annual meeting Tuesday night, the organization also voted to endorse Kevin James in his bid to become the first openly-gay Mayor of the City of Los Angeles.

“As the only Republican and the only gay candidate for Mayor, Kevin James deserves Log Cabin’s early support,” said Torgan. “His vision for a Los Angeles with a balanced budget that focuses on the needs of neighborhoods before City Hall special interests is one that the whole City can get behind.”

The election of Brad Torgan as chapter President marks the end of former Chapter leader Scott Schmidt’s two-year tenure at the head of the Chapter.

In a presentation Monday evening, the West Hollywood
City Council commended Schmidt and Log Cabin for the organization’s work on behalf of repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, support for Marriage Equality and commitment to local West Hollywood businesses.

Currently Log Cabin Clubs in California are chartered in Los Angeles, Santa Clara and San Francisco Counties.  Endorsements in Federal races are made by the National Log Cabin Club, while State Constitutional and Legislative endorsements are made by the State Chapter.
