Fire Hydrant Erupts on Santa Monica Boulevard

The incident is reported to the LA County Fire Department at 3:50 p.m. Traffic is moving along the boulevard by 4:15 p.m.

An estimated 5,000 gallons of water erupted from a broken fire hydrant on Santa Monica Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard on Monday afternoon, said Capt. Fred Salmo of .

The incident was reported at 3:50 p.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard at Hilldale Avenue, in front of the , Salmo said. A truck allegedly hit the hydrant and kept driving, knocking the hydrant off its base, he said. Fire trucks responded five minutes later and the water line was shut down.

The city of Beverly Hills Public Works Department, which services .6 square miles of West Hollywood, was called to replace the hydrant.

Water spilled over into westbound traffic, but dried quickly, reported Patch contributor James Mills, who was at the scene. Traffic was moving along Santa Monica Boulevard by 4:15 p.m.
