Lambda Lit Book Club to Kick off Later This Month

Tony Valenzuela, executive director of the nation's leading LGBT nonprofit literary organization, is jump-starting a new book club in West Hollywood later this month.

The Lambda Lit Book Club, which launches Mar. 27, will highlight a different queer book each month. The program, presented by Lambda Literary Foundation and co-sponsored with the , promises to select a heady mix of LGBT classics, unheralded gems, and buzz-worthy new releases.

The Lambda Literary Foundation, which relocated to Los Angeles from New York in 2010, is the largest and foremost nonprofit in support of LGBT writing and publishing in the country.

Valenzuela or guest facilitators will lead the monthly book discussion of both current books and classics with LGBT themes. When possible, the foundation will invite book club selected authors to discuss a book in person.

The Lambda Lit Book Club will meet the last Tuesday of every month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Room.

The first discussion is on Peter Cameron's Coral Glynn, which was released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in late February 2012. April's selection is Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson, which was released earlier this month. The discussion is set for Tuesday, April 24, and will be facilitated by Monica Carter.
